TYALO TYALO

Tyalo Tyalo is a winery come to fruition, by the shared passion and skill of Yanis Carnal and Felipe Raupp. Both talented individuals in their own right, they've proved themselves skillful and dedicated in their crafts before having set a foot in a vineyard. While Yanis has experience both as a talented chef, and a graphic designer alike (if it wasn't obvious from their beautiful labels), Felipe owns a restaurant - and naturally they both share a passion for cooking - to which you can accredit their long friendship. As the two developed a shared taste for natural wines in 2016, Yanis started organizing various natural-wine centered events alongside his work, which ultimately would lead him to start the Salon Desalpes, which we were so fortunate to attend this year, and where we first met.

I'm sure there was not a second of hesitation in Yanis and Felipe, when after meeting renowned Jean-Christophe Piccard of Domaine Picard in Lavaux, they were presented with the opportunity to co-produce a series of micro-vintages, before finally setting up their own cellar in Saint-Légier.

The two are passion-driven and work with strong ideals for the outcome, which they strive to achieve from their work. Their production is totally zero-zero and with manual destemming, and every cuvée is pressed in a charming, old, manual ratchet-press. As men of ideals and particular tastes, there's not much room for funky wines in their portfolio, and while the local tradition of winemaking is not commonly parcel-based, they believe in single parcel, single varietal cuvées, with the strongest expressions of character. They're not affraid to cellar cuvées for another year or two, to make sure it arrives at it's most presentable, before shipping them off - which is truly commendable, and a rare sight among young vignerons.

We'd be remiss not to mention that they share both cellar and working spirit with Matthias Orsett. Visiting them both, there's no doubt they lend eachother both manual labour and knowledge when needed. The lessons learnt and love of winemaking is both plentiful and abundant in this Saint-Légier cellar.
